What group maps are for
Group maps make places from posts visible: meeting points, observations, learning sites, findings, or other notes that matter spatially to the group. The map is an additional way to browse a group's posts and does not replace the regular post list.
How posts appear on the map
A post appears on the group map only when the map is enabled for the group and the author sets a location pin on the post. Posts without a pin remain regular posts and are not shown as markers.
Categories and filters
When a group uses categories, map markers inherit the post category. This lets members filter the map by topic. Uncategorized posts are grouped into their own filter option as soon as uncategorized posts with location pins exist.
Use precise location pins carefully
Set exact pins only when a precise place is genuinely helpful and appropriate. For sensitive places, private property, or protected natural sites, a more general description in the post is often better than an exact marker.
Use the map description
The map description appears above the group map. Group admins can use it to explain what the map is for, which kinds of places should be added, and what care members should take when setting pins.
Visibility and privacy
Map content follows the visibility rules of the group and its posts. A private group stays private; visible map markers show only content that the current person is allowed to see in the forum.
