Sam Ang grew up in a rural village. He has always been fascinated by nature. After finishing high school, he got the opportunity to join the tourism school, Ecole Paul du Brule. Sam Ang returned to his hometown after graduation but was disappointed by the amount of change in the environment and tourism. He thinks he could be part of the solution by engaging tourism with outdoor activities and adventure. Sam Ang is facilitating an adventure camp at the YEP Academy.

Walking into the Living Lake is an outdoor expedition designed for those who want more than a typical tour. Over two days and one night, participants journey from the higher ground of Phnom Krom into the flooded landscapes of Tonle Sap, experiencing firsthand how water shapes communities, ecosystems, and ways of life.
The journey begins with a 4 km hike across rice fields and floodplain terrain, where the gradual transition from land to water becomes visible with every step. Reaching the lake’s edge, the journey continues by kayak through Mechrey Floating Village, where boats replace roads and floating homes become part of a constantly shifting landscape.
By the end of the journey, participants will not only have hiked and paddled through one of Cambodia’s most remarkable wetlands, but will also leave with a deeper understanding of why protecting the flooded forest also protects fish, livelihoods and the significance of Tonle Sap.
